EU Foreign Ministers condemn the weekend massacre in Sri Lanka
The three EU foreign ministers from Britain, France and Austria condemned the massacre that killed more than two thousand and injured huge number of people. They condemned on the following :
-> Use of heavy artillery by in no fire zone inspite of sri lanka's commitment not to use
-> Civilian condition in IDP camps
-> Insufficient access by humanatarian organizations or UN
-> No access to independent monitors, journalists to witness on whats going on
-> Continuous denial of visas and other permits to access the country
-> LTTE not allowing civilians to move out
The three EU Foreign Ministers from Britain, France and Austria speaking to the press after their informal briefing on Sri Lanka to eight members of the security council said, they are appalled by the civilian deaths over the weekend.
British Foreign Secretary Miliband together with his French counterpart Bernard Kouchne hosted a meeting on Monday to brief on Sri Lanka for the members of the security council and other concerned UN delegates and non-governmental organizations active on Sri Lanka. Only 8 members of the Security Council remained to listen on Sri Lanka after UN Security Council's meeting on the Middle East.
The meeting was not even an informal Security Council discussion as happened earlier, it is a briefing only for those concerned. Even after the weekend 'bloodbath' as UN named it, only eight members of the Security Council including US Ambassador Susan Rice participated the meeting. Russia and China were notable absentees.
Miliband speaking first said they discussed with eight security council members about the civilians in the conflict zone as well as in IDP camps. Adding to that he said the report would be shocking to those who have not followed the conflict over the last few months. The situation inside no fire zone is appalling in its humanitarian distress, where 50,000 to 100,000 people are cramped in to an area of less than 3 sq. Km.
The rise in clash has claimed hundreds of innocent lives and he said "we also heard report from credible and serious organizations, the use of heavy artillery in to No Fire Zone that directly affect the civilians." He said as an upmost urgency they would be taking that with Sri Lanka, as this is in contary to what they (Sri Lanka) promised.
Inner City Press asked France's Bernard Kouchner, whether he would use the expiration of the European Union's favourable tariff treatment for Sri Lankan textiles, the so-called GSP Plus, as a way to try to protect civilians from government bombing as took place over the weekend.
Miliband answered; saying that “Sri Lanka does not want to isolate itself from the international community. Sri Lanka depends to some extent on trade with the European Union, so the human rights aspects of the discussion are taken seriously, by the European Commission at this stage.” Adding to that Kouchner said, that “Benita Ferrero-Waldner has been involved.”
Kouchner spoke to French press separately, Matthew Lee from ICP said he heard Kouchner say, Devant nous, des milliers -- “right in front of us, thousands,” presumably meaning civilians, killed on or near the beaches of north east Sri Lanka.
Now Britain is with US on tying the IMF loan to the conflict, Franch's Ripert was not favourable to that idea earlier. Whether France changed its thought after weekend disaster is not known.
Before attending the meeting Miliband told the media:
"Our message is a simple one, which is that the killing must stop." "The civilians trapped in the zone, up to 50,000 to 100,000 in an area of just 3 square kilometers are the victims of what at the moment is a war without witness."
“As you know, the issue has not yet been allowed onto the formal UN Security Council agenda. That's why we'll be having a range of meetings on the side of the formal meeting on the Middle East... merits the attention of the UN at all levels. The Secretary General has already sent his rep to Sri Lanka, the lack of access for the UN and its agencies remains a major concern.”
"I believe very, very strongly that the civilian situation in the northeast of Sri Lanka merits the attention of the United Nations at all levels," he said, calling it a "civilian catastrophe."

Why is the world just watching without any actions? There has been enough diplomatic/political approaches made by the the western countries. But the Sri Lankan government rejected all these requestes. The world should teach some serious lessons to this terrorist state. They can't getaway with this warcrimes!!!
Some weeks ago the defense secratary and pridenets brother gave his 'word' not to used any heavy weapons. Milliband"Credible sources said, heavy weapons are used"!
But the defense secretary Gothaya Rakapakse is a murderer.
It's about time the world put and end to Sri Lankan government for useing heavy weapons on civililans. I don't get the world is just watching when 7000 innocent civlians are killed in 4 months. And 13000 wounded. This includes thousands of chuildren and babies.
LTTE preventing civilians to leave is NOT a resason for the government to bomb the civilians!

Yes. This many number of civilian casualties didn't happen in any other country and not even in sri lanka before. No one know why is all the countries waiting and watching still ?
When there is no safe place to go anywhere, why would people get into detention camps .. Instead of getting tortured .. sexualy abused .. and get killed , people rather stay from their home and fight for their freedom .

The anther to that is actually simple.
For one Sri-Lanka has refused UN peace keeper and if one of the parties refuses there is nothing the UN can do.
Secondly the UN is powerless with the system that governs it today, meaning the five veto powers to wish mercy it has to dance.
Further the LTTE is not exactly an organization that awakes sympathy either and wish most likely cause the Tamil more harm then good.
This being said the Tamils are the victims by both the LTTE as well as the Sri-Lanka Government.

Yes. UN has no use in Sri Lanka. Even if there isn't something called UN, there is no much difference as far as Sri Lanka is concerned. All UN does is to be nice to its members. If it really intended to solve, it could have called for ceasefire atleast, though its unlikely that anyone respects their call.

Well if you tell the truth is creativity, what you wrote is also creativity.Well why the world is silence is, they saw the truth about it as who is firing who when the civilins starts fleeing from LTTE. If you think these civilins and LTTE have good relationship, how on earth these people came like tidle waves to the goverment sides.
EU ministers shouts for save there votes and some couple of money. Before they speak about Sri Lanka they should turn back and see what sort of gabage with them as what these countries done to the Iraq, Afaganistan, Palastine Ect, Why, those countries have animals or what? U can play as much as u can, but dont worry Sri Lankan forcess will capture the babarians and that day u and ur EU ministers can watch how jubilant the Tamils, Sinhalese, Muslims in Sri Lanka. If there is war crimes UK,US. Israel and many more should go first to the courts starting from the Colonial period.
