European Union one of the largest trading partner and the second largest for garments export warned Sri Lanka of losing preferential import tariffs if the human rights record to get worse. The Reuters news story on the topic also covers the concerns by International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) on the dangers faced by the NGO staff on the ground.

In a related development earlier this month, the New York based Human Rights Watch (HRW) has accused the government of Sri Lanka being responsible for wide spread abductions and disappearances.
