Eunice Kennedy Shriver in Critical Condition at Mass. Hospital
Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the 88-year-old sister of John F. Kennedy, is in critical condition at a Massachusetts hospital on Friday.
Family spokesman Stephen Rivers reported that Eunice Kennedy Shriver's family, including daughter Maria Shriver, is at her bedside at Cape Cod Hospital.
Eunice Shriver is believed to suffer from Addison's Disease and has struggled with her health in recent years. In November 2007, she was hospitalized for several weeks at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Shriver is best known for being the founder the Special Olympics.

I'm sorry to read this. Mrs. Shriver has done a great deal of work on behalf of countless developmentally disabled Americans over several generations, not to mention being a founder of the Special Olympics.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver is a kind and gentle woman, who believes we all have something to contribute to the world. Regardless of the cards dealt to us at birth. Her life has been a dedication to those who are most often over looked. While raising 5 children she never stopped being a leader in community service and giving back to the world. With special interest in children's health and those with disabilities.
Being one of the founders of the Special Olympics, she is on a commemorative Special Olympics Silver Dollar coin (1995) and the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1984, the highest civilian award. Awarded to her by Pres. R Reagan. In May 2009, The Smithsonian in Washington DC unveiled her portrait in the National Portrait Gallery.
In 1960, Mrs Shriver campaigned for her brother, Pres. John F Kennedy. In 1972 George McGovern's unsuccessful ticket with her husband (Robert) Sargent Shriver Jr ( for VP0 and most recently backed Pres. Barrack Obama.
A life long democrat, in 2003 she supported her son in law, Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) in his successful bid for Governaitor of CA. He is married to the Shriver's only daughter; Maria.
Champion of all those who don't have a vote or a voice, Eunice Kennedy Shriver has been an advocate for children, the mentally challenged and the unborn.
