Eurostar Services Cancelled as Snow Brings Havoc

There's still no end in sight for frustrated travellers on both sides of the channel with the holiday getting closer every day. The Eurostar service remains suspended today due to the cold snap, and the problems caused by the condensation created when the trains go into warm tunnels from the cold are yet to be ironed out.

The companies' offer of a refund, with £150 compensation has been criticised as not enough in some quarters, many feeling that Richard Brown, chief executive of Eurostar should resign.

With further delays on the roads and the closure of the port at Calais, and delays and cancellations at airports, I am increasingly pleased that we decided to stay at home this year.

It is currently unclear when services will resume. Eurostar is running tests on the line on Sunday.

Severe weather warnings remain in place in northern parts of the UK as freezing conditions continue to disrupt travel.

Flights grounded

Snow has fallen and is expected to continue to fall in Northern Ireland, western Scotland and north-western parts of England, and temperatures will remain below freezing.

Ambulance services have urged people to take extra care walking and driving and to wrap up warm.

At Bristol International Airport hundreds of people are stranded after Easyjet scrapped five flights.

Flights were grounded for 90 minutes at Manchester Airport on Sunday morning as staff moved snow and de-iced a runway.
