Mussoorie, October 22
Autumn festival is organised each year here with the aim to woo tourists from across the country. However, this year’s festival has been marred by disputes over payments allegedly leading to the female event manager being physically assaulted.

Kanchan Maheshwari, an event manager from Delhi, has accused one of the Nagar Palika employees of publicly abusing and physically assaulting her upon demanding payment and has lodged a complaint with the police.

Kanchan had organised five events in the nine-day festival and after completion of the events a dispute arose over payments. “I was abused and physically assaulted and also stopped from filing a police complaint by the Palika officials,” she alleged.

Sources allege that the matter flared up when members of the organising committee demanded a commission from Kanchan.

“Instead of taking any action against the culprit, the Nagar Palika has withheld my payments and are pressurising me to withdraw my complaint,” she alleged.

On the other hand, executive officer of Nagar Palika Harshwardhan Mishra has dismissed these charges. “Our sources indicate that Kanchan was not assaulted but rather she had abused our staff,” he said.

Kanchan has approached the State Womens’ Commission.
