I don't know if the man ever pranced about in fishnet stockings as some have claimed but maybe that ain't too important. Since my return from this jaunt I've been re-reading Curt Gentry's J. Edgar Hoover: The Man and the Secrets which details a good many of Hoover's abuses of power over his - long - years in power.
But back to the stockings. I shouldn't be surprised by now but it never fails to amaze me that so many people dwell on his supposed wearing of dresses and what not but don't really blink an eye at his more than supposed shenanigans as Director of the FBI- just ask the shade of Martin Luther King, jr. or others about COINTELPRO.
Hunter Thompson put it best . . . "Spiro Agnew was the Joey Buttafucoco of the Nixon administration and J. Edgar Hoover was its Caligula. They were brutal, brain-damaged degenerates worse than any hit man out of The Godfather, yet they were the men Richard Nixon trusted most. Together they defined his presidency."
