Amid the campaign for a recall referendum in few days time, Bolivian President Evo Morales accused media owners- not journalists- of misinforming over his administration. He called such policy media terrorism.

Morales says his Administration is victim of media terrorism

La Paz, July 28 (ABI).- This Monday, President Evo Morales denounced before a group of foreign representatives from 15 countries that his administration was victim of media terrorism, which was directed by media company owners.

"I am sorry for the journalists, but there is media terrorism. I am sure that it does not come from journalists, it comes from the media owners", Morales said, at the opening ceremony speech of the Intellectuals and Artists from the World meeting for the unity and sovereignty of Bolivia.

Important people are being part of this meeting such as from Brazil, Frei Betto; Belgium, Francois Houtart, Armand Mattelart, Michelle Mattelart and the journalist Michel Collon; Nicaragua, Ernesto Cardenal; USA, William Ramsey Clark; Britain,  the journalist Richard Gott; Spain, Pascual Serrano and the American pacifist Cindy Lee Sheehan.

Morales, to explain the accusation, recalled that last Saturday he had visited Camiri, in the Department of Santa Cruz, where a crowd had waited for his arrival. However, after the ceremony a few young people, showing their disagreement, launched some firecrackers.  When he had been coming back in his car, he had listened in a local radio news broadcast that "people from Camiri had not allowed Evo Morales to arrive in the place".

"That news made me laugh. Therefore I says there are media terrorism that distorted the facts", The President assured, asking the Bolivian and foreign representatives to analyse whether his opinion about mass media was right or not.   Finally, he added that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded the propaganda against his Administration.  "Some spots are being paid from USA. I do not whether the State Department, Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada or Carlos Sanchez Berzain are who are funding the opposition group", Morales argued.
