Making a stand on world food crisis Bolivian President Evo Morales suggested limited use of bio-fuel production. Morales stated food were first meant for people. Only left over were to be used as bio-fuel.
Evo said agricultural products were for human being and not for cars
La Paz, July 08 (ABI).- This Tuesday, Bolivian President, Evo Morales Ayma, stated that agricultural products were first for human being then, if there ware leftover for bio-fuel production.
Morales, who signed a financing agreement with Canada Government for more than $ 15,9 million to be used in the program "Desnutrición Cero" (Zero Malnutrition), said that was not acceptable that agricultural food fed cars instead of human being.
"The agricultural products are first for human being, if there are leftover then we can use that for cars", President Morales emphasized, at the time to ask a joint effort for fighting against food crisis and to put an end to children malnutrition.
According to a confidential report of World Bank (WB), published by British newspaper The Guardian, the bio-fuel was responsible for the increase up 75 percent on food prices.
That conclusion contradicts the US Government statements, which says that only 3,0 percent of prices increment are caused by the fuel of vegetable origin impact.
According to Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), there are almost 855 million of hungry people in the World. It also gives a list of some product prices increment such as wheat, 130 percent; rice, 74 percent; soy, 87 percent; corn, 53 percent.
