Appearing on "The O’Reilly Factor," former Bush Press Secretary Dana Perino
claimed that the U.S. had not lost any standing in the world during the Bush
administration. “I actually think that we are respected in the world,” said Perino.
However, in December 2008, the Pew Global Attitudes Project released a report
showing that “the U.S. image abroad is suffering almost everywhere“:

Opposition to key elements of American foreign policy is widespread in Western
Europe, and positive views of the U.S. have declined steeply among many of
America’s longtime European allies. In Muslim nations, the wars in Afghanistan
and particularly Iraq have driven negative ratings nearly off the charts.

During her tenure at the Bush administration, Dana Perino falsely claimed that she had "debunked" the pre-war Downing Street memo; that claim was met with laughter.

She's a monster. Her attitude was disgusting as Press Secretary. The Press was an intrusion into Bushland, where the Pres was always right. Pathetic.

"A monster" !!

Anyway, I will tell you that I lived in Europe in Italy during the last years of Reagan, Bush the elder, and Clinton.

We were so hated then it gave you pause. I would be at dinner at Easter or Christmas, and somebody would launch into their required kneejerk anti-American diatribe, stuff that even if it were true, had the roles been reversed, I wouldn't have brought up.

Yes, Italy had the world's largest communist party outside of the Eastern Bloc, but, even given that, even my most lib friends who fit into Berkeley and roll around in pleasure cutting up America told me that they just shook their heads at the absolute nonsense that would come all too otften out of the mouths of Europeans.

There is actually a long history to anti-Americanism that goes back 400 years. It did not begin with Reagan, while I am sure that it got worse under the second Bush, the level already being irrationally high, who cares?

Nyctuber, she is not a monster. As so many everywhere are, she is a mediocrity and she is in denial, something she has in common with so many posters on the internet.

Perino is a monster, much like Cheney.

You, on the other hand, are a whiny slow adult who has made it his mission to prove me wrong whenever I post.

The pseudo-intellectual bit makes you seem desperate, I'd suggest moving on.

I'm a conservative Republican, but I did not like Dana Perino.  I have to agree w/NY City tuber that she did not help her boss at all with her arrogant attitude.  There was something so brittle about her.  She always seemed on the brink of hysteria whenever she was challenged. The relationship between the press & President has always been contentious & maybe it should stay that way.  However, our President needs a poised, polished Spokesman/woman to handle that prickly aea.  The last person Bush needed was Dana Perino.  She did have potential to be a "monster".

You compare Dana with somebody like Ari Fleisher who was pleasant, calm, cool & collected.  Bush's ratings were much higher when Fleisher was handling communications.  Of course, those were the glory days before all Hell broke loose, yet I can't help but think, that is when our President needed a real competent person to handle his public/media affairs.  It's never been a love affair between the Press & the President.  Even Obama has already had unexpected run-ins & disapointments with the W.H. Press Corps.

I know I don't speak for all conservatives, but I respect the tension between the 4th Estate and the Oval Office.  I look to our free press to give me as much info as possible about what is going on in that W.H.  Notice, I did not bother to use word "Unbiased", that belongs to another generation.  It's up to the individual to read a wide spectrum of opinion, and then make conclusions.  Reading one paper a day does not give one proper balance.  I love the fact that my PC allows me to get my news from lots of sources.
