No, no. This isn't a new sit-com (situation-comedy) from those Hollywood TV writers who brought you "The X-Files" or even "The World According to Garp".

These are apparently Zelaya's own words from an interview in the Miami Herald, as re-reported at Pajamas Media (named for Dan Rather's comment about the challenge to his Bush story, as to if you believed him or a bunch of guys "sitting around in their pajamas").

President Zelaya, for those of you for whom the name rings a bell but still need information, was the president of the Honduras, and was, depending on your point of view of the facts, ousted in a coup, or deposed legally by order of the Supreme Court of the Honduras for attempting to subvert the Honduran constitution by acting illegally in an attempt to change that constitution to allow him to run for president again.

The present Honduran constitution only allows one term. The illegal attempt to alter the constitution and the close relationship between Zelaya of the Honduras and Chavez of Venezuela led many observers to infer that Zelaya's intention was to set the stage for a life term for himself as president of the Honduras.

According to Sky News, Zelaya's ally Hugo Chavez threatened military action against the country after the Venezuelan ambassador was taken hostage during the coup.

Perhaps, given this evidence of real mental illness, Zelaya's actions need to be re-interpreted as the result of major mental illness and not a simple, pure power grab by a person, once admired widely in the Honduras, who has gone over to the dark side.

Here are some excerpts from Pajamas Media and from the Miami Herald:

It's been 89 days since Manuel Zelaya was booted from power. He's sleeping on chairs, and he claims his throat is sore from toxic gases and "Israeli mercenaries'' are torturing him with high-frequency radiation.

"We are being threatened with death,'' he said in an interview with The Miami Herald, adding that mercenaries were likely to storm the embassy where he has been holed up since Monday and assassinate him.

But Mel’s story is not just about personality quirks and fantastical stories of Israeli mercenaries. His tale also includes collusion with President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela in aiding drug traffickers. He has been accused by Honduran authorities of stealing millions of dollars from the Honduran Treasury, and shortly after he was deposed, computers were found in his residence with the results of a vote for the illegal constitutional referendum that never took place. Not surprisingly, the rigged voting results indicated an overwhelming victory for Zelaya’s reform.

Yet with all his peculiarities and criminal activities, the Obama administration, the UN, the OAS, and the EU have all joined hands with the likes of Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez to call for his reinstatement. According to these supporters, what is best for Honduras is the leadership of an egocentric criminal who believes he is being attacked by Israeli mercenaries using high-frequency radiation.

One would like to think that such a prestigious and law-abiding group of nations and world organizations would avoid and denounce a character such as Zelaya. But as we have already learned, anything is possible in Mel's World.
