There are times when us Zimbabweans/Africans become content with being the victim. Haunted by an unforgiveable past imposed on us by the burdens of imperialist conquest we find ourselves held captive by the impulse to divert the need to address our own responsibilities and shortcomings through the convenience of blaming someone else. Not to be misunderstood, in no way am I trying to absolve those that brought us slavery & colonial rule from the debt & injustice they must repay and answer for but my motivation is to simply address an inconvenient truth. Bob Marley once said
"emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds" Indeed, when we become content with playing the victim and pointing fingers we begin to lack the wisdom to acknowledge our own inadequacies and shortcomings. Wisdom implores us in times of calm and those of upheaval to look within and face those impulses & elements that hinder us from bettering ourselves as individuals, as a culture and as a people; those moments when wisdom asks us to exorcise those demons that drag us down and impede us from reaching out to our full potential.
sincerely yours,
Kwapi
