A veteran Sgt. with Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, who was on his second Afghanistan tour and was due to come home in only a week, was killed today by a roadside bomb.

Sgt. Scott Shipway died while on patrol in the volatile Panjwaii district of Kandahar province around 12:30pm local time in Afghanistan, seven other Canadian Forces soldiers were wounded during the attack.

A roadside bomb killed one Canadian soldier and wounded seven others in the Panjwaii district of Kandahar province on Sunday, a military official said.

Brig.-Gen. Denis Thompson, who is in charge of Canadian troops in Afghanistan, identified the soldier who died as Sgt. Scott Shipway of the 2nd Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, based in Shilo, Man.

As the number of casualties climbs, we have to ask "at what point does the Canadian cost of a stable Afghanistan get to be too high?".
