UPDATE 1:50 PM PST: Calgary police have said they'll release more details at a press conference this afternoon. I'll watch for updates.

____________

Police found several explosives along train tracks in south Calgary yesterday. Not a lot of details yet.

The Calgary police bomb squad detonated several explosive devices found near LRT and freight train tracks in the city's south Monday night.

A Calgary Transit employee found the devices between the Heritage and Southland C-Train stations and called 911. All trains were halted in the area for several hours, said police Tuesday.

Some explosive devices were also found near a rail line parallel to the LRT, said police.

At a news conference Tuesday, police described the devices as similar to "pipe bombs."

Investigators found two of the devices had already been detonated, while the bomb squad triggered the rest.

Police said they don't believe the explosives had the potential to damage trains, but that they could have seriously hurt anyone who might have picked them up.

The devices are being examined as the police investigation continues.

Sounds like something from a Tintin comic.

Rob Peters, I like this story. It's good stuff. Luckily the bomb was not capable of harming any trains. Nonethe less, glad no one was hurt.
