Missing Raptor: F-22 Crash Site Found Near Anchorage

The F-22 Raptor that went missing on November 16 was found crashed. The F-22 crash site is roughly 100 miles north of Anchorage, AK. The pilot's fate is unknown, as rescue teams have been unable to land at the crash site.

Helicopters and a C-130 plane have been searching through the night for signs of the pilot, but so far to no avail. The pilot's survival kit would be equipped for the freezing Alaskan weather, provided he was able to eject in time.

The aircraft was part of a two-ship formation, “Rocky One” and “Rocky Three.” The mishap flight was “Rocky Three” with “Rocky One” unable to locate the crashed aircraft. The crash site was discovered around 10:15 a.m. local time on November 17, but rescue teams were not immediately able to land to determine the fate of the pilot.

Pararescuers will return Thursday, Hayes said.

"They're going to put them back in at first light, or they'll put in somebody - a crash recovery team or somebody."

100 miles north of Anchorage is pretty much wilderness with a lot of forest. This time of year, I imagine it is pretty cold and possibly snowy at times. If the pilot bailed he would have a tracking beeper. If his parachute landed, there is a high probablity of hitting a tree. That doens't feel so good because I parachuted into a pine tree once and was piereced with 400 pine needles. Ouch. It is survivable.

Oh but there is alot of forest in that part of the state. You have obviously never been there. But then again, by your language, it appears you are trying to be the big man acting like you know.
