Facebook criticised by Archbishop
Social networking websites, texting and e-mails are undermining community life, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales has warned.
Archbishop Vincent Nichols said MySpace and Facebook led young people to seek "transient" friendships, with quantity becoming more important than quality.
He said a key factor in suicide among young people was the trauma caused when such loose relationships collapsed.
"Friendship is not a commodity," he told the Sunday Telegraph newspaper.
He added: "Friendship is something that is hard work and enduring when it's right".
I expect it keeps people out of the pubs and bars and the church is getting empty because of the on line bible study. Oh and keep the Christians away from the Babel Fish because he is an atheist, lol.

I think Facebook has 'saved me from the community'. It fact it has enriched my life. Another thing, if I totally relied on my community I would either end up as a CofE Christian (whatever that is) or an Athiest, but now luckily, the internet has widened the scope and I can practice what I believe in.
Though I have done my very best to have more Facebook friends than real people, I have had 3 members of the community knock on my door just n quick succession with queries and I've only just come back from work and was feeling grumpy. With Facebook, the community don't know how grumpy we are after work.
