“FAIRNESS” Are you having a laugh?

“DON’T HIT HIM TEN TIMES; HE HIT YOU ONCE HIT HIM BACK ONCE,” screamed a women at one of her two sons on the tube. Everyone on the carriage looked over their newspapers some with wide ayes and others with frowns. A look of bewilderment and embarrassment crossed the boy’s face, looked like he was ten, as he looked over at his mum and replied: “I hit him ten times because I wanted him to stop.”

   

You will agree with me when I say this, what is happening in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Gaza is not fair and what is even worst is that the whole world has turned blind eye to this. 

 

Over the past seven to ten years rockets fired from Gaza have been hitting south of Israel and killed no one.  So why now? Why is Israel killing so many innocent people? What are the motives behind this sudden attack?  There are so many questions to be answered.  Both sides are talking tough but no one is willing to give reasons of why some many innocent people have to die for this.  Well some political commentators say that it is because Israeli election is nearing and the Jewish people like the party that can teach Palestinians a lesson.  

 

This region is one of the (if not the) most complex regions in the world; its history is as long as Andrex roll!  Both sides’ demands differ.  Hamas will live Israel alone as long as it returns to its pre-1967 borders and allows Palestinians to return to land taken away when Israel was created in 1948.  That is a demand Israel will not agree to.  Israel sees the 1947 UN Partition Plan for Palestine as a short-term solution.  Israel wants the whole region to itself.  As David Ben Gurion, the PM of Israel who led its people to victory in 1948 Arab-Israel war, “The Jewish people have always regarded, and will continue to regard Palestine as a whole as a single which is theirs in a national sense and will become theirs once again.  No Jew will accept partition as a just and rightful solution.”  These are words that majority of Jewish stand by.  There are so many illegal settlements that no one can do anything about.  In Jerusalem you can buy a post of The Temple Mount and it is not there yet and has not been agreed to by the Palestinians and the Arab world and I do not think they will ever agree to.

 

This has to be said, Hamas is not like the Taleban, i.e. they do not want to islamizise the Palestinian society because they rely on non-religious voters.  If you walk around in Gaza you will hear pop music like Madonna and see people watching the latest Hollywood films and see some women wearing the veil and others not.

 

What is more, most of the Hamas leaders were educated in western institutions and hold no ideological odium towards the West.  People seem to misunderstand this party; its movement is nothing more than a grievance-based; its dedication is to address the unfairness done to its people. 

 

Nothing is impossible in this world; Barack Obama is a living proof!!!  This conflict has not been solved because wrong people are meeting.  The people who should meet are the top people who run Israel and Palestine.  Those two groups need to sit down together without preconditions in order to achieve genuine peace.
