David Michael Hartley's body is still missing after he was reportedly shot by Mexican pirates on September 30 when he and his wife Tiffany were jet skiing on the Mexican side of Falcon Lake. As they made their way back to the United States side, they were allegedly shot at by Mexican pirates; David was hit and is thought to be dead, but Tiffany survived and is still waiting for news about her husband.
The Hartley family has criticized Mexican officials for not doing enough to find David Hartley and Tiffany even said she would take a lie detector test to prove the validity of her story.
It is thought that the couple were on the Mexican side to take pictures of a famous church in Old Guerrero and were on their way back when they saw the armed gunmen on boats. It has been reported that one of the boats strayed briefly into U.S. waters when it was trying to run down Mrs Hartley.
The gunmen are suspected to be Mexican pirates, whose activity on Falcon Lake, which spans the U.S. and Mexico border, has increased over the past year. There have not been any shootings in 2010 however, and it is not known why the pirates fired at Mr. Hartley and his wife.
