Family of beheading victim announces lawsuit; accused murder and RCMP jointly named
The family of beheading victim Tim McLean has launched a lawsuit against murder suspect Vince Weiguang Li, Greyhound bus company, the RCMP, and the Attorney General of Canada.
The family is seeking about $150,000 in damages, but Prober said the lawsuit is not about money. It's about accountability and responsibility for what happened to McLean, he said
The death should have been prevented, Prober said, adding that he hoped the legal action would lead to better safety measures on Greyhound buses.
Prober said the family has had difficulty getting answers about why the Mounties waited hours to try to end the incident.
The family maintains that the RCMP allowed Weiguang Li to remain on the bus with Tim McLean's body and did nothing to stop the mutilation of his remains. RCMP officials are offering no explanations to family members or the public.
Eye-witnesses have since stepped forward stating that they feel the RCMP failed in its duty to act to stop a crime in progress when officers didn't intervene while McLean's dead body was being mutilated and cannibalized.

From my recollection of this incident the young person Tim McLean, who had been beheaded had already passed away prior to the any authorities arriving. So how can they be sued for not stopping a crime in progress? Yes, the authorities could have gotten onto the bus and shot Mr. Li what would they have proved? It was very sad this happened to Tim McLean in the first place. Mutilation of Tim's remains only shows just how deranged that person was. I have heard the police should have tasered the person holding the knife. What if the taser didn't work and it doesn't always. As sicking as this incident was had the cops had shot the person with the knife with no other person on the bus then thier acitons would have been questioned. Anytime there is a situation with a person holed up in a place the police always try talking the person in to surrending. What ever happended to Captial Punishment?
God Bless Tim McLean's family

That will really solve any thing? The RCMP had nothing to do with it nor could they do any thing since it was all over as they arrived and they did arrive as soon as possible.

What about what happened to the dead body under the nose of authority...isn't that an incredible crime in itself? They didn't need to shoot dead the offender, afterall he had no gun and isn't th epolice supposed to be trained for such circumstances? Incredible! What woudl the lawsuit do for the family? Hopefully give them some closure. What would the lawsuit do for the rest of the country...hopefully make it somehow safer?! I applaud the family for taking such a stand.
