The MClean family lawsuit is against both Greyhound and the Government on their public safety role and in the hopes all riders whether on bus,planes and trains, all deserve safe passage.

The family of a man who was attacked and beheaded by a fellow passenger on a Greyhound bus is suing the bus company and the federal government for failing to ensure his safety.

The family's lawyer, Jay Prober, says the lawsuit names Greyhound, the Attorney General of Canada and the man accused of killing Tim McLean.
He said the statement of claim alleges that neither the bus line nor federal agencies responsible for transportation and public safety took the proper precautions.
The lawsuit is on behalf of 13 family members and is for $150,000. "This lawsuit is not about money," Prober said at an afternoon news conference in Winnipeg. "It is about accountability -- about responsibility for what happened to (McLean)."
McLean was killed the night of July 30 while taking a Greyhound bus from Edmonton to Winnipeg.
He was stabbed and beheaded by another bus passenger near Portage la Prairie.
Vincent Weiguang-Li, 40, has been charged with murder and is undergoing a court-order mental health assessment to determine if he's fit to stand trial.
He is next due in court on Sept. 8.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff. they're right it is about accountability, but what's going to be the blow back? i like the bus because i get on it and go to my destination, and if they start boarding buses like they do planes with all these security checks then we're just letting fear replace common sense. not everyone who has a knife in their pocket is going to behead the person next to them, it was an isolated incident that they're going to use for precedence.

Thanks Marcel for the comments and flag, I agree, I mean I agree the family should be compensated, and I think they are going about it the correct way. I guess we are turning into a Security concious society where trust no one is the catchword. Certainly a tragic way to live.

I don't think it's possible to start checks on buses like they do planes. I mean, it would take too long, and would set back the whole plan to cut emissions and get people out of their cars. No one would take the bus if they had to undergo a security check. It's bad enough as it is right now.

I agree completely with moonwolf. There are insane people out there full stop. My deep sympathy to the family has turned into disgust by their pathetic cash grab and has turned them into bonafide pariahs.

150k grand though is a small amount of money considering what they went through, media, funeral etc, Considering if this were in "Sue City USA" they would have gotten untold millions. We also do not know what they will do with the money once they receive it? Perhaps memorial, scholarship, so I will reserve judgment, as well as luckiiy never having lost any of my own children, I hope any monies they receive, they will put it to good use.

Even the bus driver ran away. the guy didn't have a gun. NO BODY tried to stop him.
It's like that notorious case in New York, where a girl got attacked and killed and no one in the surrounding apartments helped or even called the police.
Bus drivers should be equipped with non-lethal weapons and trained to stop violence on their buses. Pepper spray, or ?, clubs, taser.
