On the 5th August 2006, Action Against Hunger

(Action Contre la Faim, ACF) French aide agency’s 15 local staff were massacred

in the Sri Lanka’s Eastern coastal town of Muthur. The killings were blamed on

the Sri Lankan Armed Forces who were in control of the town. Later, the Sri

Lankan Monitoring Mission (SLMM) the Scandinavian team overseeing the

implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement also suspected the government forces as

their attempts to investigate the killings were blocked by the government.

The ACF, ICRC, other international NGOs and UN have demanded a through

investigation into the killings. The inquest has finally begun on Monday 24th

March in Colombo.

According to this Reuters news story the family of the massacre victims doubt

justice out of the process.
