On the 5th August 2006, Action Against Hunger
(Action Contre la Faim, ACF) French aide agency’s 15 local staff were massacred
in the Sri Lanka’s Eastern coastal town of Muthur. The killings were blamed on
the Sri Lankan Armed Forces who were in control of the town. Later, the Sri
Lankan Monitoring Mission (SLMM) the Scandinavian team overseeing the
implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement also suspected the government forces as
their attempts to investigate the killings were blocked by the government.
The ACF, ICRC, other international NGOs and UN have demanded a through
investigation into the killings. The inquest has finally begun on Monday 24th
March in Colombo.
According to this Reuters news story the family of the massacre victims doubt
justice out of the process.
