Father seeking sole custody murders 5-year-old son by smothering him during visitation; media reports inaccurately describe the family dynamics as a "heated divorce and custody battle" thereby implicitly blaming the child's mother
"Gary DeToma Sr., who was taken into custody at the Eastlake Drive apartment where his son was found dead Monday afternoon... Police were... called by an attorney who represents DeToma's wife, because the children were not returned to her after spending a weekend visitation with their father..." http://www.11alive.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=146287&catid=8 And http://www.ajc.com/news/dekalb/parents-of-dead-5-569077.html

This is a horrible tragic story. Nothing will ever bring back Gary Jr. I personally know Gary Sr. and he loved his children. They were his whole life. He was an abused husband who wanted nothing more than keeping his family together. He worked to support his wife and his boys and give them the best life that his earnings would allow. He would work all day and come home to cook, clean and take care of his boys to get them ready for bed. He did not want his marriage to end and wanted to keep this family as one. There are so many unanswered questions still. What went wrong? I am waiting for all the pieces to be connected to know for sure that Mr. Detoma was the one that committed this murder? I totally agree that if this was done by Gary no matter what the conditions were he will pay for his actions forever. To me and our family he is our Gary. To the outside world he is a monster and understandably so. We all need to find out the facts of this case. We are all innocent until proven guilty. God Bless America....

I know exactly what went wrong and I dont know either party in this tragic event. Case of a loving good father who loved his child and was about to lose his child in a divorce because no matter what in the family courts eyes the child should be with the mother no matter how unfit or crazy she may be.And the father that has been there from the beginning is left to pay child support for a child that he cant see anymore but once a month like a stranger due to an unfair family court system!!! Until the family court changes its laws and makes it fair for all parties involved and really do whats best for the child and realize that just because a woman carried the baby for nine moths doesnt mean that she is the most fit to take care of the child!!!! This will not be the last time things like this happen with these unjust and sexist family court laws!!!Big ups to all the good fathers out there!

Get over yourselves. Blame the family court for the baby's death, not the father. Priceless!
