From today onwards muslim cannot sing one of the most inspirational song from the independence movement, here in India. Jamait-e-Ulema Hind issued fatwa against singing 'Vande Mtram'.

Jamait-e-Ulema Hind or the JEU on Tuesday issued a fatwa against singing national song

'Vande Mataram'.

According to a resolution, Muslims should not sing 'Vande Mataram' as its reciting is against the Islam.

The resolution, which was passed at the Deoband national convention meet, says that Muslims should not sing 'Vande Mataram' as some verses of the patriotic song are against the tenets of Islam. The JEU leader said that the some of the line in the song is against Islam.

Meanwhile, home minister P Chidambaram addressed a Jamait-e-Ulema Hind conference in Deoband today.

Meanwhile, the Muslim Law Board justified the decision saying that (Muslims) can’t offer prayers to anyone but Allah. Kamal Farooqui, a prominent leader of the Board said, "We love the nation but can't worship it."

Well, objection can be raised on every word, but looking national song from religious point of view cannot be justified.

Following is Sri Aurobindo's translation of the original Vande Mataram

Vande Mataram
Sujalam Suphalam
Malayaja Seetalam
Sasya Shamalaam Mataram
Vande Mataram

Mother, I bow to thee!
Rich with thy hurrying streams,
bright with orchard gleams,
Cool with thy winds of delight,
Dark fields waving Mother of might,
Mother free.

Shubra Jyotsnaa
Pulakita Yaminim
Pullakusumita
Drumadala Shobhinim
Subhashinim
Sumadhura Bhashinim
Sukhadaam Varadaam
Mataram
Vande Mataram

Glory of moonlight dreams,
Over thy branches and lordly streams,
Clad in thy blossoming trees,
Mother, giver of ease
Laughing low and sweet!
Mother I kiss thy feet,
Speaker sweet and low!
Mother, to thee I bow.

Sapta Ko Ti Kan Tha
Kalakalaninaada
Karale Dwisapta Ko Ti Bhujai
Rdhr^Itakhara Karavaale
Abalaa Keno Maa Eto Bale
Bahubhaladharinim
Namaami Taarinim
Ripudala Varinim
Mataram
Vande Mataram

Who hath said thou art weak in thy lands
When the sword flesh out in the seventy million hands
And seventy million voices roar
Thy dreadful name from shore to shore?
With many strengths who art mighty and stored,
To thee I call Mother and Lord!
Thou who savest, arise and save!
To her I cry who ever her foeman drove
Back from plain and Sea
And shook herself free.

Tumi Vidyaa, Tumi Dharmaa
Tumi Hridi, Tumi Marma
Tum Hi Pranaah Shariire
Bahute Tumi Maa Shakti
Hridaya Tumi Maa Bhakti
Tomaraa I Pratimaa Gadi
Mandire Mandire

Thou art wisdom, thou art law,
Thou art heart, our soul, our breath
Thou art love divine, the awe
In our hearts that conquers death.
Thine the strength that nerves the arm,
Thine the beauty, thine the charm.
Every image made divine
In our temples is but thine.

Tvam Hi Durgaa
Dasha Prahara Nadhaarini
Kamala Kamaladala Viharini
Vani Vidhyadayini Namaami Tvam
Namaami Kamalaam,
Amalaam, Atulaam
Sujalaam Suphalaam Mataram
Vande Mataram

Thou art Durga, Lady and Queen,
With her hands that strike and her
swords of sheen,
Thou art Lakshmi lotus-throned,
And the Muse a hundred-toned,
Pure and perfect without peer,
Mother lend thine ear,
Rich with thy hurrying streams,
Bright with thy orchard gleams,
Dark of hue O candid-fair

Shyamalaam Saralaam
Susmitaam Bhuushitaam
Dharanim Bharanim
Mataram
Vande Mataram

In thy soul, with jeweled hair
And thy glorious smile divine,
Loveliest of all earthly lands,
Showering wealth from well-stored hands!
Mother, mother mine!
Mother sweet, I bow to thee,
Mother great and free!

I would imagine many Indian Muslims would not want to sing that song. They probably dont anyway. Many lines stink of idolatry, thanking a country and not God, pictures in temples ! Are you Muslim yourself ? If people follow the advice of the fattwa it would be good but of course remains an individual decision

Thanks Sputnic, yes it is more Hinduistc in tone. But just imagine, we symbolize nation as human being, with all its great qualities.

Well choice is all upto ones on consice. I dont have any religion. I am just a human being.

Stinks of idolatry? what are you a phobic? In a democracy the country comes first then religion.  The cause to fight for a country is enough to motivate soldiers & not having to tell them that 1 muslim soldier is equal to 10 of the opposing force. So in the democracy you have to thank the country & your fellow countrymen with whom you share your economy. You know if we don't do that then we'll have a situation (like that of Pakistan) where bombs explode every 2 minutes & bloody hell all are muslims there no idol worshipping.  So we make our people patriotic & then religious.

If you think country comes before religion you are wrong ! That song is not country anyway, it is Hindu

We are wrong? For 63 years we have ensured that we put the nation first then our religions...& we have reaped handsome rewards..it's there for all to see..or should I list the achievements of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for a quick comparison?   As for the song being hindu i think you should broaden your horizon a bit.  The song has references to south-asia's 5000+ years old culture..it has references to dharmic religions like hinduism jainism buddhism even sikhism.  Ever heard of the saying "You learn something new everyday"?? It's not by burying your head in the sand of islam that you will be able to achieve that. No wonder why Pakistan is in this state today. But you're not at fault. Cavemen mullahs give supposedly "education" to 35% of your country's male youth. Not to mention the terrorist propaganda being fed to your kids in the school textbooks.     READ:www.sdpi.org/whats_new/reporton/State%20of%20Curr&TextBooks.pdf    Tell me what you think about it hunh?

Think you should read the vedas that say God is one ! I am not from Pakistan ether ! When India feeds its poor, then I will believe it is a great country

Of course, a Muslim can't worship idols as it is very basis of Islam not to worship anything but Almighty Allah. So how can one sacrifice his/her religion for patriotism.

It is not forced, you can or cannot it is all upto an individual. It is just an poets imagination which clicked in time of freedom struggle.

How? like TTP is screwing Pakistan at the moment. Shall I elaborate? Man you gotta give it to the guys who issue these fatwas..infact you should be more familiar with this fatwatude thing...remember Certificates of shahada terrorist are being issued by your mullahs sitting in Pakistan...ah fatwas fatwasYour joke of a president talked to Sarah Palin he got a fatwa.Bin Laden has issued fatwa against Musharaff & you ArmyYour army was shown kicking civilians in a recent video..tadaaa we have a fatwa....remember the Fatwaadis had declared that salman khan isn't a muslim or something like that just because they host Ganpati Puja every year...his father told them to shove their fatwas up their arses because that's the only language they understand.  Pakistani, you should know that if we start bowing down to every tom dick or harry that pops up like that every other day we'd have a chaotic situation like the sh..hole countries in the neighborhood (you know which one).

singing a song should not feel shy for indians muslims because as far as i know alots of hindi songs are against islamic basic laws monothism.any how in islam singing and dancing has no place.first the real indian muslim should understand and dont sing and teach there children to listen that songs.then talk on this topic.this is test for real muslims and munafiqs(idoltarous).but it is impossible for those who really bielieve and understand.muslims should always pray and loyal to creators(god) not creations like tommorrow somebody make a song on sun or moon and tell pray them.see creations can be changed but the CREATOR cant,if ur certain piece of land gives everthing then tell sun and moon dont come over india.so a good educated people should not debate on such foolish topic. as indian they should see others basic problems and try to overcome.plz refer this web

First of all , i need to tell you guys one thing , this is India , india has its own heritage , india ve accepted all religion and cast and creed , there is nothing which is greater than mother india, if muslims are claiming not to sing a national song , in future , are they going to ask for a muslim state ? When i was in school , i ve always ve always have had concerns about the indian history. First of all , all the persian rulers who ve fought against india ve to be removed , like tippu and ghori and all ... if muslims are claiming not to sing the desh bhakthi song , right , ok ok ... remove the OBC category first ...i seriously think that this is a political game rather than the individual thought of muslims . People like zakir husain are exploting the poor and illiterate muslim community in india .
