You can't make this stuff up!
Cairo, 13 March (AKI) - A fatwa or religious edict issued by a senior Egyptian cleric invites people to end their neighbours' marriages if they can prove they are collapsing from irreconcilable differences.
"If the evidence that the neighbours present is verified, the court has the right to make the couple divorce," said Sheikh Jamal Qutb, cited by Dubai-based TV network Al-Arabiya.
So who's gonna protect the wife's head?

I wonder if this is a little known law in Egypt itself or it is well known and used routinely.

this is a recent edict and applies to all Islam. not just Egypt. On the Dubai TV.
This is who can make edicts: 'Qutb, an Islamic scholar and former head of the fatwa committee at Egypt's most prestigious religious institution Al-Azhar,'

But decidedly strange, don't ya think? a scholar issuing orders to your neighbors to make you divorce. I mean I can see a lot of room for abuse here.
And who is going to protect the woman from the wrath of the 'scorned man'?

Sounds quite medieval if you ask me, as long as they dont try and bring it to my country as one of the religious cultures.

You mean they aren't trying to bring sharia law to Canada? I hope everyone with any sense up there takes note.

I wonder if the judge will entertain an action from a person who wants that his neighbor's marriage be severed just because he has observed irreconcilable difeferences from them.
