FBI Sting Fails: Killer Vandersloot Flees to Central America

FBI sting fails and Joran Van der Sloot leaves Aruba on May 13, 2010 without being arrested for the extortion that he plotted and successfully followed through with and it was all recorded on tape that was filmed by the FBI. It is uncertain why the feds stalled and did not take him into custody before he left Aruba because if they had, Stephany Flores Ramirez would still be alive today. The tape showed his actions receiving extorted cash from Beth Holloway to identify the location of missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway. He received ten thousand in cash and fifteen thousand by wire transfer which he used to go to Central America. He is recorded counting the money twice on the video and this was enough evidence for the FBI to use the sting proceedings for an arrest warrant. However, the FBI took too long to coordinate a bust on Van der Sloot and he left Aruba and fled to Central America where he ended up in a gambling casino in Lima, Peru where he found victim Stephany Flores Ramirez. After he killed Ramirez he fled the hotel with her cash that she had on her possession and with all of her jewelry. The only personal things found on the deceased in the hotel was an empty wallet according to Ricardo Flores, the victims father.
