The Federal Government will remain closed on Wednesday as snowmaggeddon continues to pound the area with heavy snowfall.

The Federal Government in Washington DC has been closed since last Friday afternoon so about 230,000 government employees have been off work for almost a week now. However, there has been few repercussions from the closure as many essential government services are conducted in other offices spread throughout the country. Some employees were reported to be working at home as well during the snowfall.

"Anything that is critical is going to get done," said Linda Springer, a former director of the Office of Personnel Management, which oversees the federal work force of nearly 2 million workers.

Some businesses that do dealings with the Federal Government in Washington even reported to have had a chance to get caught up on work, as they had more time without meetings.

As NowPublic member YankeeJim reports, more snow is expected to fall in the region and if the area gets just 9 more inches, it will be the snowiest winter since 1884 when records began.

The White House moved a concert slated for tomorrow night honoring Black History Month to tonight due to the weather.

President Obama made a joke about the snow after a successful meeting with Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell:

"In fact, I understand that McConnell and Reid are out doing snow angels on the South Lawn together," Obama joked as he made an unannounced stop in the White House briefing room.

Airports are struggling with canceled flights however and New York City public schools are closed tomorrow.

Others are without power in the storm hit regions and some grocery stores are running out of some supplies.

Perhaps some of the snow could fall on Cypress Mountain for the Olymipc Games?

Mother nature still rules - it does not matter who thinks they are in power over their people or land, nature will put them in check!

In Philadelphia (the city often described as D.C.'s northern neighbor), all city government offices, and public and parochial schools are closed tomorrow.

I read elsewhere but it is a good point, and a good thing too -- 85% of federal employees in the U.S. do not work in Washington, D.C. so federal govt. business will hopefully happen tomorrow!
