And people complain about the high cost of living now, certainly a princely sum of 40 shillings which was about $4.60 for discovering Canada seems a ludicrous sum for one man to take a historical journey to New Founde Land. One wonders what his wife said upon his return to Britain when after months at sea he hands over his paycheque to his wife who must have said "WTF" You're an Idiot!

It is amazing to me when I read stories about Europeans "discovering" any part of North or South America. Granted this continent was the last continent to be inhabited or "discovered" by humans, but it was long before any Europeans came to these shores.
Clovis people were regarded as the indigenous people of North and South America; however evidence discovered by archeologists in last thirty years calls this into question. The earliest evidence of permenant human settlement in Canda was found on the archipelago of Haida Gwaii in British Colunbia. This culture called the Woodland Cultural Period dates 1000 B.C.E to 1000 C.E.
