'A few flourishes' in Obama's Detroit story?

Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama is touring a Chrysler plant in Sterling Heights, Mich., this morning. Our Gannett colleagues at the Detroit Free Press have used his visit as a peg to look at the way Obama has been talking about a speech he gave in Detroit a year ago. They've come to the conclusion that Obama adds "a few flourishes" when he talks about that address.


As the Free Press explains, Obama has said on several occasions that he went to Detroit and "told the automakers that they're going to have to raise fuel-efficiency standards on cars. ... And I have to say that when I delivered that speech, nobody clapped. The room was really quiet. But that's OK, because that's part of what is the task of the next president."


The newspaper has posted this video of Obama giving that speech. As the 5-minute clip shows, he did get at least some applause:

Just goes to show  - it's pretty difficult to get away with anything in an age where everything is recorded.
