Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro has called on Latin American countries to follow Venezuela's lead in order to enjoy prosperity and growth. In an article published Tuesday, Cuba's revolution leader praised Venezuela for having 'absolute transparency' in dealing with its resources that multinational foreign companies used to exploit, Prensa Latina reported. Castro wrote: "The people are the masters of their destiny and they march on to attain the highest levels of education, culture, health and full employment. It is an example to be pursued by other sister nations in this hemisphere and it does not give up: it does not wish to lag behind a plundering empire." His remarks come two days after Venezuelans voted in local elections to elect new governors and mayors where President Chavez's United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) won 17 states out of 22, a sweeping 95.67% of votes counted nationally.
