Filipino fugitive accused of rape arrested

Police say a fugitive wanted for alleged rape was arrested in eastern Philippines while preparing to buy a ticket for the country's biggest lottery draw. A police report Saturday says Ariel Ayque, 52, had been in hiding since a local judge issued an arrest warrant for him last year. But the record jackpot prize for Sunday's Super Lotto draw _ expected to reach at least 330 million pesos ($6.8 million) _ apparently proved too tempting. The report says Ayque was arrested Friday as he was about to place a bet in a lottery outlet in eastern Naga city. Millions of Filipinos have been caught up in the Lotto craze, with a deluge of bettors flocking to lottery outlets because the jackpot has ballooned after several weeks of winner-less draws.
