The Hamptons is perhaps the wealthiest neighborhood on earth. It is an isolated private beach resort community only a few miles east of New York City and features many of the world's rich and famous as it's residents.

In 1994 I attended a private party at  64 Seafield Lane Westhampton New York. The 10-acre estate featured a cozy cottage on a ritzy bay front, a guesthouse and an elegant boathouse overlooking a creek.
The house was built for coal magnate, William Atwater in the early 20th century by Henry Bacon who also designed the Lincoln Memorial.
The house was purchased in 1994 by Leonard Conway, an investor, who has donated funds to the Westhampton Performing Arts,  the Democratic National Committee, and candidates such as Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy.
It is currently on the market for $39 million.

Exactly one week ago, today, Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 64 Seafield Lane Westhampton, Ryszard Pawlak, the caretaker to the estate, woke up at 5 AM in the morning, beat his wife, Lucyna Pawlak perhaps with a baseball bat exposing her brain. He set the cozy cottage on fire before hanging himself in the garage.

Newspapers wrote Ryszard Pawlak beat his wife Lucyna Pawlak with a golf club, left her with a head fracture, hung himself in the elegant boathouse, and set the guesthouse on fire..The wife was found in the bedroom by firefighters.

We don't know what causes people at times to commit such acts.
What the newspapers left out is that for years Ryszard Pawlak complained to his close associates that he heard voices and saw spirits within the house which he claimed was haunted. The dining room table which contained all the family photos to include children and grandchildren was the only object in the house untouched by the flames.
What is documented is that six months ago Ryszard had fallen off a ladder while working and had suffered severe damage to his spine. His wife, Lucyna, remains in critical condition at Stony Brook Hospital.

Ryszard Pawlek was buried today at Good Ground Cemetery directly across the Children of God's plot.
