A fire was the cause of an evacuation today at the Google London Headquarters on Buckingham Palace Road in Victoria, after a rooftop barbecue mishap.

Hundreds of employees had to leave the building along with the staff of other firms in their office tower, and witnesses nearby reported on Twitter that they could see smoke coming from the roof and people milling around on the street outside.

The fire only lasted a few minutes, but smoke continued to darken the streets around London. The fire was put out around 2:30pm local time.

A spokesman for London Fire Brigade said that no one was thought to have been hurt in the incident.

"We were called at 1.53pm and currently have four fire engines dealing with a fire in an office building on Buckingham Palace Road," he said.

Everyone was safe and there were no injuries.

Google London has three floors in that building, along with American Express and Vitol.
