FireFighters Fight Separate House Fires

(WIVB) - It was a busy night for volunteer firefighters across western New York.

Firefighters are still trying to determine what sparked two house fires overnight.

A tanker truck provided the water firefighters needed to put out the flames at a rural home in the Town of Yorkshire in Cattaraugus County.

Several volunteer companies responded when the fire broke out around one o'clock Thursday morning. The flames just about destroyed the home. Fortunately, the three people inside were able to get out safely before it was too late.

Members of another family were out of town camping when their home in the Town of Boston went up in flames overnight. Neighbors say they awoke to the smell of smoke.

Neighbor Lois Jones said, "It was very, very strong. I couldn't imagine it being a house fire. It smelled more like a bonfire; somebody burning tires maybe, very strong."

Jones says she rushed over to the home, but didn't actually see the smoke and flames until firefighters arrived on the scene.

Jones said, "It was totally contained until they opened up the roof. They sawed open the roof and then they started opening the windows and then the flames shot out and the smoke."

No one was injured in either of the fires. Again, firefighters don't know what sparked them.
