15 people are dead and 17 are injured when fireworks caused a bar fire in southern China; reports say that a group of people set off fireworks at their table.

The Xinhua News Agency says that the blaze in Changle, a city in the southern province of Fujian, started just before midnight Saturday when 10 people at a birthday party set off fireworks at their table. It is a common practice during Lunar New Year celebrations, which lasted all week.

The explosion set the ceiling on fire and the whole building was soon burning.

This is tragic and sad, even more so because

it happened at  a birthday celebration, which

should have been a happy event.

Celebration is good but people

need to also be aware of where they

are and be careful.
