India is going to celebrate dewali on 28 october, in this festival the demand for fire creckers touches sky.To feed the demand several illegal factory pops up, where the safety norms are never followed.

UPDATE:death toll is know 28, some of the seriously injured have lost their vision.

At least 17 people, including 10 children, were killed after an explosion at a fireworks factory in Rajasthan, police said on Thursday.

Another 18 people were hurt after the explosion in the town of Deeg.

"At least 17 people died after a blast brought down houses in and around a fireworks factory," Jagdish, a police officer who goes by one name, told Reuters by telephone from Jaipur, the state capital.

The explosion came only days before Diwali, when millions of Indians take to the streets to let off fireworks in one of the biggest festivals of the year.

Poor children often clandestinely work at makeshift fireworks factories in India, which are often in people's homes, and almost every year there are fatal accidents.

Thanks Dave Keating,

the fireworks industry is mostky run undergroud, to evade various goverment provisions, main issue is involvement og child labours in these units.

Thanks Eustaquio Santimano,

This is normal phenomena in this part of world, poverty forces the children out of school and they get job in these dangerous factories at minimal wages just to put some food in their mouth..

Thanks mr  reddi,

this is very sad, we always enjoy dewali, without taking into consideration  how many children have lost their chilhhod in those factories.

The working conditions in these kind of illigal factories reminds world that we the consumers who want cheap products are responsible for it.

I've read bout 20 similar accidents in India only this year! In the states Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow, Kanpur, Balasore district, Kottarakara, etc. There's full with illegal firecrackers factories.

So sad, I feel sorry for those people working under the poorest conditions risking (and giving up) their lives just for some change money :(( Aren't there any laws in India which at least prohibit child labour??

Amitjha

thanks ferryca,

as far as laws are concerned......India has provision for prohibition of child labour in constitution, but problem is more socio-economical rather legal.
