This  will be news for a while but Iceland has many serious problems with the economy and riots about the economy. What matters is whether she can resolve these problems.

Iceland's political parties have reached an agreement that will give the country its first female prime minister and the world its first openly gay leader.

There is much work to be done to right the Iceland economy.  She will need help from all political factions.

Johanna Sigurdardottir, 66, will lead the government when it is sworn in at 6 p.m. (1 p.m. Eastern) on Sunday, her political advisor Hrannar Arnarsson told CNN via e-mail.

A former flight attendant who entered politics via the union movement, Sigurdardottir was minister of social affairs and social security in the outgoing Cabinet, which resigned Monday.

She has been in politics for a long time so maybe she will use her experience to move forward as prime minister.

She has been a member of Iceland's Parliament for 30 years, and was in her second stint as minister of social affairs. She started her career as a flight attendant for the airline that became IcelandAir. She was active in the flight attendants' labor union during her 11 years with the airline, according to her official resume.

She briefly led her own political party, which merged with other center-left parties to form the Alliance party.

Sigurdardottir would become Iceland's first female prime minister, although not the North Atlantic nation's first female head of state -- Vigdis Finnbogadottir became its fourth president in 1980.

It appears that the Premier has her work cut out for her but I was wondering if you could post her name in the body of the story.

Yes, she has much to do.

Thanks for the reminder.  I will add to it now.

Well written!

Interesting that the title is first gay PM, and not first woman PM.

She is also the first Iceland woman PM but other countries have had woman PMs.  I guess first gay PM anywhere is more newsworthy.

Hopefully people are keeping their eye on the ball: what she does in office is key, while what she gets up to behind closed doors is irrelevant.

True.  She should be judged by if she improves the economy and ends the riots.

Thanks, and for reading it.

I try to follow your good example.
