With the end of LTTE militancy in north and east Sri Lanka, the restrictions on fishing in Northern seas have been lifted.

Following the lifting of all restrictions on fishing, the industry is now gathering momentum in the northern districts of Jaffna and Mannar and arrangements are now under way to engage insulated trucks to transport the excess fish produce to Colombo and other southern areas, said Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, G. Piyasena.

With no restrictions on fishing any longer this amount is expected to increase further, fisheries sources said.

Fishermen in Mannar were already engaged in fishing. Jaffna fishermen had restrictions but now they can go fishing 24 hours a day.

In Mannar, fisher people were already engaged in fishing and their number further increased with the resettlement of over 700 families in Musali, Mannar, from IDP welfare centres in April and June. The resettled fishermen were provided fishing gear and other assistance. Although there was no displacement of fisher families in the Jaffna district, they were not fully active due to the fishing restrictions in force and LTTE threats. However, at present they are free to go fishing 24 hours a day. With the northern fishing grounds of ‘Pedro Bank’ and ‘Wadge Bank’ which are rich in aquatic resources, the fish produce should increase substantially, the Ministry Secretary said.

I think it is a typo.

The heading should read "Killing in full swing in Jaffna, Mannar"

I can write my own headings Tamiya, thank you.

You still haven't given up harrassing me even after your temporary suspension from NP?

I know some love the word 'Killing'

But no more Eelam wars and no more bus bombs in Sri Lanka however much some may cry for it. Sorry.

Hiranya!

I'm afraid I have to agree with Tamiya there.

Killing is alrite 'cause fishing "kills" fish.

It certainly is GENOCIDE against FISH.

If one cannot accept the true freedoms in the North of Sri Lanka, that have been brought about by the end of this war, that certainly is a sad state.  Sad in the same sense as living in exile with no reason to be in exile, other than for economic gain.  I guess that would be reason enough to blind one's self to the truth.

The war is over, the rightful citzens of the North and of Sri Lanka, have returned to live in peace, once again.  Fishing was a trade and a way of life, which has now been restored.  Try to be happy for those who have survived and are attemtping to rebuild their lives.
