QUETTA: Five teenage boys were killed and three others were injured when unidentified attackers riding a motorcycle opened fire at them when they were returning home after playing a cricket match on Friday.

Quetta Deputy Inspector General Police Rahmatullah Niazi said that the boys were returning home after playing a cricket match near Jinnah Town when the motorcyclists shot them dead near the FIA office.

Residents said the boys were members of a school cricket team.
The gunmen, who have not been identified, fled after the attack, Niazi said.
Police were investigating if the killings were a result of any rivalry.
More than 100 people gathered outside the hospital chanting slogans against the attackers, witnesses said.

Hundreds of people have died in violence in the province since the insurgency flared in late 2004.
The province has also been hit by attacks blamed on Taliban militants.
