Fleur-de-lis gets symbolic approval

BATON ROUGE -- The fleur-de-lis should not be Louisiana's lone symbol, possibly overshadowing the pelican that emblazons the state flag, a Senate committee said today.

Without objection, the Committee on Senate and Governmental Affairs amended House Bill 455 by Rep. Nickie Monica, R-LaPlace, and sent it to the full Senate for debate.

Instead of naming the fleur-de-lis as THE official state symbol, Monica's bill now makes the flower "AN" official state symbol, leaving room for the pelican.

This is what they got that huge payraise for?

Spurred an outpouring of rage from commenters.
