Flight 1549 Hero Captain Chesley Sullenberger To Retire.

Flight 1549 Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger is to retire after an illustrious career the pinnacle of which became the dramatic Flight 1549 Hudson River Landing. Sullenberger landed Airbus A320 with 155 people on board after an engine failure caused by multiple bird strikes in January of last year -- a situation that would be dubbed hopeless by most aviation specialist.

Sullenberger was praised for his composure and hailed hero by the surviving passengers.  Soon after the Hudson River plane crash, Sullenberger released his memoir Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters telling his side of the story. Captain "Sully" is retiring from commercial air flight after spending 30 years with US Airways. Sullenberger is 59 and married with two daughters.

It is alleged that Flight Attendant Doreen Welsh who was on board the fateful Flight 1549 is retiring as well.

US Airways Chairman and CEO Doug Parker said, "I am extremely proud of Captain Sullenberger and Doreen for their quick thinking and courageous actions on January 15, 2009. They exemplify the professionalism and training US Airways' more than 10,000 pilots and flight attendants demonstrate thousands of times every day across our airline. We will miss them and thank them for all they have given to our customers during their years of service with our airline."
