Floods subside in Jaffna; Security forces lend humanitarian assistance - Sri Lanka

Heavy floods that affected the Jaffna peninsula last week have started subsiding. Sea transport that was suspended due to the adverse weather conditions is expected to resume today. According to official reports, 118,273 people belonging to 32,026 families have been displaced by floods.

The worst affected DS divisions are Jaffna, Uduvil, Delft, Kopay and Karaveddi.

"To provide immediate relief services Rs 11 million has been allocated. The Ministry is ready to provide further assistance if required" said, Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Minister Rishad Bathiudeen.

The Sri Lanka Army on the instructions of Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General G.A. Chandrasiri, continues to provide assistance to those affected. As the floods are subsiding the Road Development Authority with the assistance of the Army has started repairing the Pannai coastway that connects Kayts Islands with the mainland.

Meanwhile, a boat service is being operated to transport people between the islands and the mainland.

I think the WFO directoer already applogize for the words as IDPs in Sri Lanka is like Somalia. Unfortunately now the people who talks for LTTE does not have topics to mislead the world and its own society. They even not know what happened in Somalia and what Happend in Sri Lanka.

Please do not send me these things, if you want to do something for Tamils do it dont do it for LTTE. Because u also another person running behind the a Prabakarans wish as u want to save ur life from him. Stand up and stand with you Tamil brothers in North to fight against LTTE and make a better future for them. U live in USA and living all the luxuries stuff. Imagine ur brothers who dont want to fight waho want to study, work or live like u enjoying all the benifits of the society.

What does LTTE given them even the ceasefire agreement given,. U only built Armies, collecting weopns. any school or a hospital or any facilities given to people.
