Floods wreak havoc in Pakistan, all river still flooded

Hundreds of people have been killed, thousands rendered shelterless, property worth billions damaged and road communication badly hit as floods have played havoc in various areas of Pakistan.

All major rivers in Pakistan have been flooded over, official sources said here Saturday. “The Indus River is flowing in very high flood with rising trend at Kalabagh, and at Tarbela and Chashma,” an official said.

On Saturday it was in low flood with rising trend at Taunsa and Guddu, whereas the Jhelum River was experiencing high flood with rising trend at the Mangla-Rasul reach and the Chenab River was in low flood with receding trend at the Marala-Khanki-Qadirabad reach. Federal Flood Commission (FFC) sources told Daily Times that the Kabul River was experiencing high flood with receding trend at Warsak.
The Tarbela and Mangla dams are at elevations of 1,522.85 feet and, 1,205.10 feet, respectively, which are 27.15 feet and 4.90 feet below their respective maximum conservation levels of 1, 55,0 feet and 121,0 feet respectively.
“The quarters concerned have been advised to take utmost care and vigilance in filling the reservoir to present maximum conservation level of 1,210 feet. Likewise, there has been substantial filling of the Tarbela Dam and the filling beyond the current level warrants strict vigilance in accordance with the filling criteria and safety guidelines,” the sources said.
Combined live storage position of Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma on Friday was 10.038 million-acre feet (MAF) as compared to last year’s 9.010MAF........
