Florida Senator James 'Jim' King Dies After Battle with Cancer

Florida Senator James 'Jim' King had passed away after a battle with cancer.

He served in the Florida State Senate since 1999, representing Flagler county and also parts of Duval, St. Johns, Volusia, and Nassau counties. He also served in the Florida House of Representatives. He was a champion of the Death with Dignity Law as well, that give adults the right to make their own decision about their treatment.

Statement from King family spokesperson, Sarah Bascom:

"It is with great sadness that the King family informs you of the passing of former Senate President James E. "Jim" King, Jr. President King battled his final campaign as he did all others - with a fighter's heart and with humor and humility. Many throughout the state of Florida will feel they are better for having known him.

"Mrs. James King and the King family are especially appreciative of all the many loving prayers throughout his illness."
