Foreign minister Hassan Wirayuda needs only one deputy

"It`s simple. I need only one deputy and therefore I have to thank and appreciate to the president who understands the matter," Wirayuda said after a meeting with a number of figures at Taruna Nusantara Senior High School in Magelang district, Central Java, on Monday night.

However, Wirayuda added that to date he had yet to propose the names of candidates for the post of vice foreign minister in accordance with presidential regulations No 20 and No 21/2008 on the new position.

He pointed out that in the new presidential regulations the vice foreign minister is appointed and dismissed by the president on the basis of foreign minister`s proposal.

Therefore, Wirayuda said earlier in Jakarta that he would forward his proposal as soon as possible.

"I will forward my proposal as soon as possible," the foreign minister said on the sidelines of a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR)`s Commission I (foreign and defense affairs) in Jakarta on Monday morning.

But he said he still did not know who of the echelon-I officials at the Foreign Affairs Ministry he would propose as candidates for the newly-created position.

"All echelon-I officials at the Foreign Affairs Ministry have the same competence and capability but I have yet to write down their names," Wirayuda said.
