Torrevieja town hall have released statistics of the latest census, showing little significant change.
Foreigners still make up the largest portion of recorded residents, now representing 53.7% of the population.
Latest figures show that 104,700 foreign residents are registered on the Padron, of which 12,871 are British, 3,813 Germans and 3,393 Moroccans.
Russians are quickly catching up though, showing a significant increase in recent years. Locals may have already noticed the number of real estate posters specifically targetting the Russian market, which is considered to be one of the few current areas of growth for this struggling sector.
There are now 121 different nationalities represented on the Padron, confirming once more that Torrevieja is still perhaps the most cosmopolitan city in the whole of Spain, but certainly in this region. But... If you are looking to come to Spain where Spanish people live, then maybe this is not the place for you anymore!
Of course, it is also worth pointing out that these figures only represent those people actually registered on the Padron, not the many, many people who hide away from registration to anything considered "legal".
