Former Nebraska Senator Ron Raikes has died from a farming accident on his farm in Ashland at the age of 66.

Police were called to the 400 block of County Road at 22:36pm last night where they found Raikes under a piece of farming equipment like a haymaker. He was pronounced dead at 11:07 pm on the scene. Police will not release the offical cause of death yet, but an autopsy is scheduled to take place.

Raikes was born on March 11, 1948 and represented District 25 in the Nebraska Legislature from 1997 until he was appointed to fill the remaining term of Jerome Warner who died in office. Raikes was then elected to the seat in 1998, which he held until 2008 when term limits prevented him from running again.
