U.S. Military Puts Limits On Sarah Palin's Book Tour On Bases
Sarah Palin kicked off her book tour in Michigan this week, and thousands gathered outside a Barnes & Noble chanting her name, giving the event the feel of a political pep rally. The Army wants Palin's appearance at Fort Bragg on Monday to be much quieter.
The base has asked Palin not to make a speech at a public book-signing at the base exchange; she also will not write personal notes, pose for photographs or sign anything besides her new memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life."
Fort Bragg also wanted to bar reporters from the event. Garrison Commander Col. Stephen J. Sicinski determined that by keeping out the media, the base would prevent Palin, a Republican and possible candidate in 2012, from having a platform from which to attack President Barack Obama, a Democrat.
"Fort Bragg, nor any other Army installation, cannot be used or appear to be used as endorsing criticism of the commander in chief," said base spokesman Thomas D. McCollum. "Because this book signing is turning into a political platform with the addition of media coverage, we are restricting the media coverage."
Palin's Book Tour is beginning to resemble a political campaign.

Thanks for this story. I tweeted it from @politisite so others can read the story as well.
Putting these type of restrictions on a Former Governor and Army Mom seems a bit much and outside of the 1st amendment the troops fight for.
My title would have been, "Ft Bragg going Rouge on Palin"
The book is not a criticism of Barack Obama but rather criticism on how the McCain campaign staffers treated her. Having said that, America prides itself as a country that allows it's citizens to criticise the government. So the War on Fox is over and the War on Palin is begining. Just a side note, Obama's campaign site that has changed it's name to organizing for America is asking to raise $500K to go after Gov Palin. Maybe raising money to help the economy, jobs, and other major issues should be their thrust. Raising money to silence an America citizen seems very un-American from where I am sitting.

How The Army Solved A Problem Like Sarah -- Christian Science Monitor
Fort Bragg reversed its no-media policy for Sarah Palin's book signing event on Monday, confirming that the best-selling Alaska author is a ‘politician,’ but not an ‘elected official’.
Military regulations are strict: Respect the commander-in-chief.
But given that some popularity polls have former vice presidential candidate — and ardent Obama critic — Sarah Palin nearly parallel with President Obama’s approval ratings, the Army faced a real conundrum when deciding how to deal with Ms. Palin’s on-base book signing scheduled for Monday at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
The book, “Going Rogue,” describes Palin’s rise from hockey mom to governor of Alaska, to widely attacked (but also hugely popular) vice presidential candidate, whose independent streak caused the John McCain presidential campaign to opine that she was “going rogue.”

The U.S. Army did not have a chance. Sarah Palin is extremely popular within the military, and her presence in Fort Bragg will be a huge event attracting thousands. The Army realized that it was pointless to try and stop the tsunami that will be hitting Fort Bragg tomorrow .... they did the right thing to not stop it.
