Rick Santorum Super PAC Donor Foster Friess: 'Bayer Aspirin for Contraceptives'
Speaking to Andrea Mitchell for Andrea Mitchell Reports, billionaire investor and major Rick Santorum super PAC donor Foster Friess mused on contraception: "Back in my days they'd use Bayer aspirin for contraceptives. The gals put it between their knees and it wasn't that costly."
Foster Friess didn't mean that literally: he was making a joke about how women should keep their legs together. (However, in the past, some uneducated people have accepted "asprin between the knees" as literal advice). Friess said this to Andrea Mitchell's face. You can see the video below, which includes Andrea Mitchell's reaction. Foster Friess just laughs gormlessly, blissfully unaware that he just pissed off millions of women.
This is quite telling, really. You now know exactly what Rick Santorum and his deep-pocketed supporters think of women: not much.
Not trolling now, but a serious question: why would any American woman vote for Rick Santorum, whose camp seems to have no respect for women as a gender? Aside from friends like Foster Friess, Rick Santorum's own views suggest that he sees women as vessels who must bear out whatever is done to them, including bearing the children of rapists.
Whether or not Foster Friess trots out an apology or not isn't relevant: this is the sexist mindset that we're dealing with.
Meanwhile, we also have a "contraception hearing" attended by men, most of whom were religious leaders. Darrell Issa (R-CA) refused to let real live women testify.
