France Science Day report, Shrimps living in closed Jar-Biosphere
France Science Day Nov-23
Shrimps Biosphere VIDEO
Today is Science day. All over France, Universities, Campus are open for public. Visitors, Associations show their Inventions, Ideas. Some popular science catched my attention.
Shrimps pocket Biosphere
Of course in France science must be about food. In this case living shrimps in a real Biosphere, a closed Jar with water, air, and algae. No outside air intake, no water exchange. How does the homemade Biosphere work ?
Biosphere works on Solar
The Sunlight passing through the Jar starts photosynthesis with the Algae plants. Hereby the C02 produced by the moving shrimps is splitted into Oxygen, released into the water and Carbon stored in the Plant. The oxygen consumed by the shrimps, releasing CO2 and so on.
The big Biosphere for Humans
This was an experience, with planting vegetables and bananas for Food of the Humans living in the Biosphere. It worked about for 2 years, but oxygen had to be pumped in. The crew of the Biosphere was always hungry. Best results brought Bananas. The microbes in the soil probably consumed too much Oxygen. Even the beton consumed oxygen, amazing oxydation process.
For what do we need a Biosphere, on the moon ?
For example Moon, Mars need such Biospheres with balanced exchanges of CO2 and produced Oxygen by plants, or trees. May be we learn that for our planet too with the CO2 and oxygen coming from trees, it's not just in the air.
I want such a Biosphere for my home
You can make one yourself, should limit the shrimps two in a jar. Or you buy over Internet round about $45 for a nice decorative shrimps bowl.
Any plans, "Ozonsphere"
I am working since years on the "Ozonsphere" practical a Biosphere but concentrated on Food vitamin and fish protein related production. Resistant agains Ultraviolett and cosmic rays entering the depleted Ozone layer. For example Tomatoe leaves burn black in the mediterranean region , need shadow of trees. The skin of fish is also very sensitive to UV light reaching 150 ft down in the ocean. The parasites coming into the first Biosphere, a few ants almost killed the balance of the Sphere.
Fete de la science
