Frank Fasi died last night; the Honolulu Mayor of 22 years died at his home of natural causes at age 89.

Frank Fasi unsuccessfully ran for Hawaii governor five times, but he was mayor from 1968 to 1980 and then again from 1984 to 1994.

His son David told the news about his father's death via an e-mail and it said that Frank had died at home surrounded by his children and his wife.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann issued a statement saying he was "heartbroken over the passing of a true legend in island politics."
