Free Ronald Biggs: The Last of the Great Train Robbers
Ronald Biggs awaits result of appeal to leave prison. Why keep an old man who is clearly nearing the end of his life incarcerated for a crime committed way back in 1963. Ok he got jailed escaped and fled to live in Rio Brazil. He became the most famous of the great train robbers because he managed to dupe the law and escape. Scotland Yard were left with jam on their face when it was realised Biggs was the one that got away. For many years Biggs led the life of a low life celebrity in Rio.
He had a son born to a Brazilian woman who was at one time his girlfriend. His son named Michael is in his thirties and has stood by his father and played a big part in getting him to face the British justice his father had evaded for so long. The reason being! Biggs has become very ill and wanted to spend the last part of his sad life back on British soil. Michael has been a tower of strength for his wayward and complicated father. The young man has remained loyal and true to his dad and is still trying to help have him released from the British prison he languishes in today.
A sick old man who once had a story to tell which shook the world. I do not judge Biggs by his crime and lifestyle for the reality in life for most of us, truly is there for the grace of god go I!!!. Life really has become a lottery of survival of the fittest. Even if only for Michael’s sake I think the British courts should vacate his prison cell to a far more violent and younger thug. Prisons are full to the max in the U.K, with vicious and violent criminals who really have been a menace to society. Our courts can no longer accommodate the criminals and judges are left with no other alternative to either tag criminals who should clearly be in prison being rehabilitated. Then the question comes to mind how an old sick man can be rehabilitated. It really is time the British let the old train robber out of the confines of his prison, so at the very least die with his son by his side.Enabling Biggs to die with the dignity that evaded him through a very colourful and sad life.
Rio may be a beautiful country, but at the end of the day there really is no place like home.Especially if you happen to be British. I think its time to let the old rogue out and fill his cell with a criminal who is young and fit enough to cause yet more havoc in our streets. For Ronald Biggs no doubt is never ever going to be fit or well enough to do anything other than die with dignity with his son by his side. I say Free Biggs and leave the history of the so called great train robbery where it should be. Forgotten and Forgiven.
Update......2nd July......................................
Land of hope and glory...............Great Britain...............Ronald Biggs has been refused parole from prison. Jack Straw MP, has announced that Biggs will remain in jail, despit the fact he is of no harm to anyone. Straw has thrown a hard punch, Think ! Straw wants us to think of himself as touch and unyeilding Minister for justice. No Jack dont think so pal, I, like many Brittish people, can clearly see, Ronald Biggs 80 yrs old frail and weak sadly is on his way out of this world.
After Biggs was given the news of his refusal of parole, his health has deteriated even more.It has been widely reported Biggs after a fall, has broke one of his hips.
Lets hope his lawyers will fight on to release him before he is finally dead. Biggs devoted son Michael is reported to be distraught at Jack Straws final onslaught on a very sick old man.
Like Barbara comments below. SPITEFUL.
UPDATE; SUNDAY AUGUST THE 9TH
PLEASED TO SAY RONALD BIGGS WAS RELEASED FROM PRISON YESTERDAY.
UPDATE;AUGUST 17TH AUGUST
The latest news on Ronald Biggs is that he will be moved into a rather lovely nursing home in North London. It had been reported on ITV news he was only released from prison because he was so desperately ill.
Yet still people bicker on and on about how he faked his illness to get out of jail, something I find hard to swallow. The fact he is being transported to a nursing home must surely mean he is ready to die with some dignity, though it seems some people would rather see Biggs die in Jail.
Ronald Biggs son is busy arranging paperwork to help his father make the move to the nursing home, which may well be Biggs swan song, as the nursing home houses many activities entertainment, bingo, and other games.
Biggs son Michael has worked tirelessly to help his father be released from jail
One can only admire the young mans genuine love and dedication to his father. Something that despite all his troubles and foibles Ronald Biggs was clearly a loving dad.

It looks like Scotland Yard is just being spiteful here. He's not a danger to anyone at this point.

I say let him come back - there's no point holding any kind of grudge now, although they didn't let Reggie Kray out of prison when he was sick and dying so they probably won't budge on this.
Good post!

this really is history and would be a great ending 2 a story if he was released so many modern crimes so much more shocking storys have passed and ended up as chip chop papers but showing modern crime seems to pay release ronnie now and give the man some dignity

Thank you Chris for your coment. I agree it would be a great end to a history story that has been written about for many years now.I hope Ronnie,s son gets his dad out so he at least can have some quality time with him in the last chapter of his life.

Jack Straw is so very very wrong to refuse the recommendations of the parole board descision to release Ronald Biggs from prison, I have always believed that Jack |Straw was a moron who is out of touch with public opinion, his descision to veto Ronald Biggs release confirms my belief of just what rubbish, the labour party has amongst its ranks. If he is so keen to keep him incarcerated perhaps it should be Jack Straw who picks up the costs of keeping him in prison instead of the tax payer.Ronald Biggs is clearly at the age were he is no danger to anybody

I cant beleive the home sec has refused this man parole.
Hes keeping him inside as apolitical prisnor, there is no reason to keep him lock up under such tight security, its pathetic.

Thanks for comments guys, lets us hope Straw gets a grip of his compassionate side of
Human nature, and changes his distorted veiw on a very frail old man.

Lets be honest - Ronnie Biggs only came back from Brazil so that he could fleece the taxpayer for his health treatment - Brazil wouldn't have touched him with proverbial bargepole - they don't want him back
at 06:12 on July 6th, 2009
The point is he is British and entitled to come back despite his past he is old and weary why ! keep him in prison.

in my opinion ronald biggs should be released as he is clearly not a threat to anyone his cell should be vacated and given to one of the mps that have clearly stolen money from the public .I have been a labour man all my life but will never ever vote labour again and I am sure that other people reading this will share my opinion and hopefully do the same.
